Students at OA-Tunbridge Wells will benefit from expanded vocational learning opportunities this academic year following the success of a new partnership with Horizons.
Launched as a pilot during the last academic year, the programme saw Year 10 students attend weekly Friday afternoon sessions, developing practical carpentry skills in an engaging, hands-on environment away from the classroom.
Following the positive impact of the pilot, the partnership will now expand to full-day sessions, giving students even greater opportunities to build their skills and work towards recognised qualifications.
Delivered off-site by Horizons, the programme enables students to learn through practical experience, developing confidence and craftsmanship while gaining an understanding of the techniques, tools and processes used within the construction and carpentry industries.
Alongside technical skills, students also develop valuable transferable qualities including problem-solving, resilience, teamwork and attention to detail - attributes that will support them throughout their education and into future employment.
The expansion of the partnership reflects OA-Tunbridge Wells' commitment to providing a broad and balanced curriculum that recognises different strengths, interests and aspirations. By offering meaningful vocational pathways alongside academic learning, the academy continues to help students discover their potential and prepare confidently for their next steps.
The success of the initial pilot demonstrates the value of practical, industry-focused learning and marks an exciting next chapter in the partnership with Horizons.
